(My letter in yesterday's Pretoria News)
The Tshwane mayor's condoning of cadre deployment( Pretoria News, 6 September) is telling of the ruling party's skewed take of a democracy with a clear division between party and state.
The Mayor's arrogance is confirmed when he blatantly states that " Cadre deployment means the extending the influence of the values of the ANC and its allies at various spheres of state power." According to this statement the (ruling) party and state is one entity. What a sorry state of affairs indeed.
The mayor defends this by referring to the revolution that must not be jeopardised . What revolution Mr Mayor? This misplaced idea of a revolution will take the country nowhere.
As long as cadre deployment, with the aim of advancing the ruling party's ideologies and enriching a selected few is in place, professional service delivery will remain a myth.
